When 3D Scanning meets 3D Printing - Danish Technological Institute visits Zebicon
What does a modern measurement workflow look like when developing, reproducing or documenting components for 3D printing? A team of R&D engineers from the Danish Technological Institute's Center for Industrial 3D Printing got the answer yesterday when they visited Zebicon.
A Practical Insight into Scanning Data
The visit was based on components that the team works with in their daily operations. This made it possible to review the entire process using examples directly related to their own geometries and challenges.
Our 3D specialists demonstrated how a physical part can be transformed into a detailed digital dataset that can either serve as the basis for a design process or be used for technical validation.
Seeing the Bigger Picture
Throughout the visit, discussions covered workflows, data quality and scanner strategies. For Kristian Rand Henriksen, Business Manager at the Center for Industrial 3D Printing, the value was clear:
"It was interesting to see the entire process from scanning to reverse engineering and further into the quality spectrum – and how it can all be connected in a single workflow. It was particularly valuable to see our own cases from a new perspective, and it confirmed that 3D scanning is a great fit for the world of 3D printing."
The team especially highlighted that the insights into scanner selection and data types provided new ideas for how they can work even more accurately in their design and reproduction processes.
Dialogue and Knowledge Sharing
A large part of the visit also focused on discussing how 3D scanning can strengthen both development and quality assurance in industry. Experiences were exchanged across disciplines, and several of the Danish Technological Institute's own cases were reviewed with a focus on potential measurement methods.
