FAQ

Surfaces on complex or organic geometries can be constructed as NURBS surfaces. These surfaces are exported as IGES or STEP and can be imported in traditional CAD systems.

This type of surface is suitable for parametric design, but can also be combined with constructed features.

A color plot gives a quick overview of the differences between the scanned object and the CAD part.

Red shades represent areas where the scanning deviates positively from the CAD part, and blue shades represent negative deviations. The green color represent areas, which are within a defined tolerance zone.

This way it is easy and quick to get knowledge about deviations on the scanned part, caused by dislocations, warpage, shrinkage, sink etc.

An STL file is a polygon model. The STL file is the direct output from a scanner and is used when reporting and comparing to CAD. STL data can be imported in most CAD systems, and is also applicable for Rapid Prototyping.

To be able to make the quotation as precise as possible, it is necessary that we recieve documentation on the part to be scanned/measured.

Depending on the type of job, different files are relevant to transfer:

  • Images, photos, screen dumps (jpg, png, gif, bmp)
  • CAD parts (stp, igs)
  • 2D drawings, sketches (pdf)

If you send images, it is important that the scale of part is clear. Alternatively, you can write the part size in the description field.
