Fall break with precision: Discover three places where we have scanned national history
Zebicon wishes you a happy fall break and invites you to visit some of the places where 3D scanning has helped preserve our cultural heritage.
Do you have plans for the fall break? If you need inspiration for an outing that offers both fresh air and fascinating stories, take your family to places where 3D scanning has helped preserve our shared cultural heritage.
At Zebicon, we have helped to secure several Danish cultural treasures over the years through precise 3D scanning. Here are three places you can visit during your vacation:
1. The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde
In Roskilde, you can see the five Skuldelev ships – the original Viking ships that were excavated in the 1960s.
At Zebicon, we have 3D scanned the ships to prepare for their relocation to new, safer surroundings and to provide the museum with a detailed data basis for research and preservation.
Read more about the work with the ships here.
2. The Jelling Runestones
The famous Jelling Stones have often been called “Denmark's birth certificate,” and today they are protected behind glass.
Years ago, we 3D scanned the stones to compare them with earlier casts. The scans revealed small changes in the surface, and the results helped form the basis for the decision to protect the stones permanently.
Learn more about the project here.
3. The Mylius Erichsen Memorial Stone
At Langelinie Marina in Copenhagen stands a memorial stone commemorating the three participants in the 1907 Denmark Expedition: Ludvig Mylius Erichsen, N.P. Høgh Hagen, and Jørgen Brønlund.
Zebicon has 3D scanned the stone to document a crack that has been known since the 1930s – so that conservation work can now be based on facts rather than impressions.
